East Indiana AHEC connects students to careers, professionals to communities, and communities to better health.
Over 300 Area Health Education (AHEC) centers are active in the US, supporting health professions learners in nearly all states. AHECs work to enhance health care access and quality by improving the supply and distribution of healthcare professionals. We help academic programs, communities, and health professionals connect and work together to meet local healthcare and health workforce needs.
We are more likely to have an adequate supply of health care providers, especially in rural and underserved areas, if 1) students from these areas are motivated and prepared to enter health professions college training programs; and 2) health professions college students have the chance to complete at least some of their training in rural and underserved areas.
At East Indiana AHEC, we help students from our 14-county service area gain admission to and complete postsecondary health professions training and develop opportunities for health professions students both from our region and from programs across the state to complete some of their training - such as clinicals, internships, and service-learning projects - in our communities We also help support professional development initiatives for current health care professionals in our region.
Our funding comes from contracts (subawards) with the Indiana AHEC Network Office, which receives both federal AHEC grant funding and State of Indiana AHEC funding.
